Currently studying a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drama) at The Queensland University of Technology, Abbey Cook is a performer with over fourteen years of stage experience, working with IMRSE, Act Now and Brisbane Arts Theatre. She is enriched by featuring in short films which allow her to embody incredibly complex relationships and strong female characters, as seen in her portrayal of Beverly in ‘Hot and Heavy’(2022) and Eleanor in ‘There is No Blue in That Painting’ (2023). On a larger scale, she featured on camera in Ol Parker’s ‘Ticket to Paradise’ (2022), Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Young Rock’ and David Caesar’s ‘Darby and Joan’. Recently nominated as ‘Best Actress’ in the international 2023 Cannes Shorts Film Festival, in film ‘Hidden Melody’ (Directed by Haoming Chen), she is relishing in film but predominately wants to produce her own works to enhance audience empathy towards distinctive relationships (positive or negative) which, in turn, alter one’s actions.
All of her independently/collaboratively produced works encompass her value of exploring idiosyncratic relationships and how they enhance the malleability of a human being. Seen most recently in the second rendition of the collaboratively devised ‘Pitching a Tent’ and her involvement in podcast productions. ‘In Tune with Miss Q’ and ‘City Chat’, which allowed her to explore different facets of conformism in modern society. Despite the diverse styles and mediums she has embodied, Abbey has ultimately been shaped by these experiences, learning that she wants to write and star in work that is intrinsically realist and verbatim and extraneously minimal and thought provoking.
